Research Scientist Ph.D. - Brain Tumor - Cherry Hill - Swedish Neuroscience Institute (SNI)
1.0 FTE (40 Hours per week)
SCHEDULE: Flexible work schedules available. Department operating hours 9am-5pm PST, Monday-Friday. As long as 40 hours are worked, any mixture of days can be worked. Experiments are conducted on site, while some administrative follow up can be done remotely.
This is an opportunity for a Research Scientist to join the Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment Research laboratory (Swedish Neuroscience Institute, Cherry Hill, Seattle, WA). The Ivy Center’s research focus is brain tumors and developing new therapeutic approaches for these difficult-to-treat diseases. Specifically, this position is for a federally funded research project investigating alternative splicing events in glioblastoma using transcriptomics, proteomics, and cell-based assays. The Research Scientist will lead the alternative splicing project. Preference is for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in cancer research and experience with federally funded grants. The position requires a Ph.D. in a related field, and excellent hands-on technical laboratory skills.
Independent conduct and oversight or administration of mission relevant research activities at Swedish Medical Center. Demonstrated success in obtaining funding to implement research project or study from industry or other sources. Primary responsibility for failure/success of each project or study. May be responsible for supervision of research conduct of staff supporting study required activities. Responsible for significant contribution to published work in peer reviewed journals.
Provide scientific leadership as Principal or Lead Investigator for study staff.
Design state-of-the-art research projects for submission to commercial sponsors, federal funding or other agencies.
Responsible for identification of potential funding sources, grant development and submission of application(s) to funding agency. Serve as principal investigator on grant applications. Perform literature searches in support of grant applications. Responsible for insuring all pre-award requirements are met such as IRB review, animal review, safety review, financial review, etc.
Initiate and participate in research collaborations, both internally and externally, to enhance field of science.
Conduct research projects by coordinating staff or performing hands-on clinical, bench laboratory, or investigative work. May be non-funded pilot studies and/or funded studies. Ensure applicable regulations to area of study are implemented and followed.
Responsible for integrity and reproducibility of data relating to study, including: data capture, data entry, data structure, data analysis, etc. Responsible for ensuring proper maintenance and storage of all source documentation including laboratory notebooks, databases, etc. May be required to provide computer programming for data capture and analysis.
May develop and implement laboratory or clinical procedures required to conduct study; supervise and monitor others administering the procedures as applicable to area of expertise.
In collaboration with Research Management, works to ensure safety and well-being of staff including human resource management responsibilities and training in study required elements, protocols, procedures and relevant regulations.
In collaboration with Research Management, ensures financial responsibility for funds received for and expended for each particular research study are handled and accounted for per policy, award, and other applicable guidelines. Responsible for allocation and oversight of resources to perform work required under grant or award.
Sustained and consistent publishing of scientific based results in peer reviewed journals. May serve as a peer reviewer.
Present results of scientific projects to interested medical center staff and other professional groups in field of research.
Required qualifications:
Ph.D. in Laboratory science, biological science, physics or a related field
5 years progressively more responsible research experience in a working laboratory or clinical area
Reputation as an emerging leader in field with sustained performance and accomplishments
As demonstrated through success in obtaining funding to implement research project, or study from industry or other sources
Sustained publication in peer reviewed journals
Other professional involvement/achievements or awards
