How does the hiring process and timeline work?
Human resources will post available RN Resident positions prior to the projected cohort start date. Candidates who meet basic screening criteria can self-schedule a video interview with a hiring panel. You will be asked about your specialty and/or unit preferences, and should be prepared to demonstrate your critical thinking.
An early application submission & interview date will give you the best chance to work in your preferred specialty since smaller and/or more popular units may fill before the hiring window closes but be assured that hiring teams will continue to interview until all positions are filled for the cohort or until the deadline is reached.
What unit(s) will I be working in?
During the hiring process, you’ll note your preferences for unit placement. While residents may not get their first choice, our Clinical Education team does their best to ensure unit placements align to individual career goals. Please note that every unit may not have openings for every cohort. For more information, please browse the unit descriptions for each respective region linked below:

How many hours per week do residents work?
This is a full time position that requires 72-80 hours per two week pay period including nights, weekends and holidays. The number of hours worked per week can vary to accommodate education time and simulation experiences; and you will likely follow your preceptor's schedule for unit clinical time.
Will I be working nights, weekends and holidays?
Nurse residents are full time employees. Your schedule may include nights, evenings; and will include weekends and holidays.
Do I get vacation time during my residency?
Residents receive the same vacation, paid holidays and sick leave allowances as other contractual nurses. As Residency is an intensive program time off or scheduling requests during orientation are not accommodated.
Am I obligated to stay at Providence Swedish after the completion of my Residency?
Certain locations require that you stay at Providence Swedish for two years after completion of your orientation. If desired, you may have the ability to move to another unit through the Fellow program after one year.
