Andrew, Radiologic Technologist
After hearing family members mention Providence Swedish, Andrew reached out, connected with a welcoming manager, and knew immediately this was where he wanted to work. A self-described lover of technology and people, Andrew sees radiology as the perfect marriage of both passions, a path he discovered after his own MRI experience as a high schooler at Seattle Children's.
Radiating positivity is almost as important as radiating X-rays.
What drew you to healthcare and to Providence St. Peter?
I love technology, and I love working with people; radiology is the perfect marriage of both. I discovered the career after ending up in the hospital during my freshman year of high school. The MRI just stuck with me. When I was looking at careers later on, I thought, “What does it take to do that?” I fell in love with X-ray.
What does your day-to-day role look like?
Being an X-ray tech means I'm all over the hospital, from the ER to inpatient floors, surgery, and fluoroscopy. We keep a rotation, so the day stays varied. In surgery especially, we're the eyes of the OR. Without X-ray, you can only see what’s surface level. For a spine surgery, we help confirm exactly where screws are placed, and we work alongside robotic systems that use a CT scan as a map and X-ray to ground it in real time. It’s the coolest thing: Every day feels like a step closer to Star Trek.
What makes your team unique?
It's the relationship we have with each other, that comfort, that unconditional ability to rely on one another. I've been on a lot of teams in my life, and I've never had one this focused on the same goal. I know I can laugh with these people, ask questions, and count on them having my back.
