Chris, Technical Specialist, Imaging File Room

What began as a steppingstone became a career Chris is genuinely proud of. Today, he's the lead technical specialist in the imaging file room, a role that quietly powers the entire diagnostic imaging process. His team ensures radiologists have the prior imaging they need to interpret new scans accurately, which is an essential piece of delivering the best possible care to patients.

It's super important for the radiologist to have prior imaging to compare current imaging to. And without the file room, that doesn't happen.

What does the imaging file room actually do?

We obtain images from outside facilities, help patients access their imaging records and send images to other hospitals when needed. It's a role that requires strong attention to detail. Every situation may look familiar, but it's never exactly the same. We're constantly learning how different facilities release images and figuring out the best way to get what the care team needs.

Is this a good entry point for someone interested in healthcare?

Absolutely. I always tell people it's a great way to get your feet wet in healthcare. Many people start in the file room and go on to roles in ultrasound, X-ray or other areas. You get exposure to the entire imaging department, learn how teams work together and start to see where your interests might lead you.

What makes you want to stay after more than two decades?

The people, without question. I've always believed it's not about the job, it's about who you work with. Right now, our team feels more aligned than ever, and our managers check in and make sure we have what we need. Imaging technology keeps evolving, too, so there's always something new to learn.
