Geraldine, Acute Care Charge RN

As a pre-admit clinic charge nurse, Geraldine (Gerri), enjoys a unique four-day work week—all from the comfort of her home. Working remotely allows her to focus on helping patients prepare for surgery, a role she takes great pride in. Originally from the Philippines, Gerri moved to the U.S. and reflects on her journey: “Having the chance to work here has been such a great experience and a tremendous financial help for our family.”

Providence Swedish is a place to grow, to learn, and advance your career. I’m not planning to move anywhere else.

How did Providence Swedish support your relocation?

We were living in Hawaii at the time, and I was truly honored that Providence Swedish moved my entire family—including our dog! They even covered the cost of a week-long visit to explore the area, search for an apartment, and envision our new life here. With three children, the all-expenses-paid trip was a huge relief. Starting over in a new city can feel overwhelming, but Providence Swedish really helped.

What is working remotely as a nurse like?

I used to work at the bedside, and I worried that stepping away from that role would feel like I’m giving up nursing; but now, working remotely, I still have the chance to connect with patients and make an impact. Teaching patients over the phone is rewarding. I can give them my full attention, and they feel truly heard.

Do you still feel connected to your team?

I always make sure my coworkers know they’re not alone. I remind them, ‘This isn’t just your patient—it’s our patient.’ If there’s ever a situation where I’m needed, I’m there.
