Raj, Registered Nurse, Float Pool

Raj joined Swedish as part of the Fellowship Program; he’d previously worked as a nursing leader with a long-term care facility, but the program allowed him to effectively transition his skills to nursing in the acute hospital setting. “I was able to assimilate into the hospital side of nursing,” says Raj.

It’s important for new staff to know that they won’t be just thrown to the wolves. We really foster a team environment.

What’s the culture like at Swedish?

Everyone gets to know each other on a personal level. You will know peoples’ names from the janitor up to the management.

What’s great about working on the float team?

I like to learn a variety of things. I love that I'm able to practice different kinds of nursing on these different units. And I love the fact that the float team is a tight knit team. We know each other. We are always there for one another.

How is Swedish helping you advance in your career?

One of my goals was to get my bachelor’s, which I did attain through some of the programs that the Ballard campus and Swedish in general has. My next goal is to get my nurse practitioners license. Again, Swedish is helping me attain my goal.
