Sandy, Postpartum RN

Sandy helps new moms navigate the transformative first moments of parenthood. From monitoring babies’ vitals to assisting with breastfeeding, she eases parents’ anxiety during this life-changing transition. “One of my favorite parts of the job is being part of the early bonding between parents and their newborns—it’s such a beautiful experience,” she says.

I really enjoy where I am, so I can’t see going anywhere else in the foreseeable future.

How do you onboard new nurses?

I started my nursing career at Providence Swedish through the residency program, and now I’ve come full circle as a preceptor. In this role, I guide new residents through their day-to-day responsibilities and ensure they understand policies and procedures. My goal is to set them up for a successful and fulfilling nursing career.

What’s the workplace environment like?

The team here is incredibly supportive and welcoming. I’ve kept in touch with friends from nursing school, and while some say other workplaces can be tough on new nurses, that’s not the case here. We focus on teaching and empowering our new nurses, making sure they feel valued and part of the team from day one.

How does self-scheduling work?

We have self-scheduling, which has been amazing for my work-life balance. I can choose my days as long as I fulfill the required shifts. This flexibility has helped me avoid burnout and allows me to pursue my passions outside of work, like biking, hiking, and snowboarding.
