Tori, Med Surg RN
Tori has worked at Providence Centralia for over 16 years. "A lot of our team members have been here longer than I have, which speaks volumes about what a great team we are," she says. It was the Providence Swedish mission of serving the poor and vulnerable that spoke to her heart and drew her in.
Tori started in the Residency program, which gave her an opportunity to learn without having to hit the ground running. Her preceptorship with two nurses on different units gave her a solid foundation.
I would highly encourage all of my friends to work here, just because they, Providence is so great about helping you grow. They encourage continued education and you really have great opportunities.
Why did you choose Providence Centralia Hospital?
What’s special about Providence Centralia Hospital is we're a smaller community hospital, so we know everybody here. You know your housekeepers, you know your dietary staff, you collaborate and work with all of the providers. Everybody's on a first name basis.
What’s your experience with your co-workers been like?
We have an amazing team. I needed a day off last week, and I was able to get two co-workers to cover my shift, and it wasn't a big deal. It’s easy ask for help – they always have my back. Our leaders are wonderful at rounding, we see them every day.
How has Providence Swedish supported your career growth?
Providence has helped me grow immensely as a nurse and as a person. They helped guide me through getting my bachelor's in nursing. They've helped me get certified as a medical surgical certified nurse. They allow me to participate in shared governance, and we've done evidence-based projects that I've been able to present at conferences all over the country.
